Welcome to our Children and Young People’s page! We know that visiting a GP can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming, so this page is here to help you understand the services we offer and how we can support your health and wellbeing. Whether you need a check-up, advice about feeling unwell, help with growing up, or support for emotional health, our friendly team is here to listen and provide care that is right for you. We also want to make it easy for you to ask questions, learn about your body, and feel confident about your health. Remember, no concern is too small—your health matters, and we’re here to help you stay happy and healthy.
How do I book an appointment?
If you want to make an appointment, you can do this online by filling out an e-consult here. If that feels tricky, don’t worry—you can call us and a receptionist will fill it in for you, or you can come to the surgery and we’ll help you in person. If you are under 17, the phone number we have is usually your parent’s, so if you want your appointment or messages to stay just between you and the GP, be sure to tell us. You can do this on the form or by talking to anyone on our team when you come in. Everything you share with us is private.
Confidentiality
Confidentiality means that what you tell your GP or the team at the surgery is private. We will not share it with anyone else unless it’s really important to keep you safe. This is important because it means you can talk honestly about how you are feeling, any problems you have, or questions about your body, without worrying. If you are under 17, your parents usually get messages from us, but you can ask for some things to stay just between you and the GP. We will always listen to what you want and explain what can stay private and what might need to be shared to keep you safe. You can find more information in our Childrens Privacy Policy
Consent
Consent means giving your permission for something to happen, like having a check-up, test, or treatment. It’s important because it means you get to be involved in decisions about your own health. Even if you are under 17, we will always listen to your thoughts and explain what is going to happen in a way you can understand. You can ask questions and say yes or no, and we will respect your choices. If we think it’s really important for your safety, we might need to involve someone else, but we will always explain why.
Chaperoning
A chaperone is someone who can come with you to your appointment to make you feel safe and comfortable. This could be a parent, carer, or a member of our team. You can ask for a chaperone at any time, and we will always respect your choice. Having a chaperone is just to help you feel more at ease during your appointment.
Services for children and young people
If you are a child or young person and need help or advice, you can speak to our named contact, Dr Gita Chawla. She is here to listen, answer your questions, and make sure you get the care you need.
Non-judgemental Care – All our staff are here to help without judging you. We understand that every young person is different, and we listen to your questions and concerns so we can give the right support for you.
Minor Illness Nurse – We have a special nurse who looks after children of all ages. If you’re feeling unwell, our paediatric nurse can see you, check what’s wrong, and give you advice or treatment to help you feel better.
Young Carers – If you help look after a family member, you are a young carer. It’s important to let us know so we can make sure you get the right support and help you might need.
Asthma Reviews – If you are under 12 and have asthma, you can have a face-to-face check-up with our asthma nurse. They will help you learn how to manage your asthma and make sure you are feeling well.
Preparing for Healthy Adulthood – We send a special guide to all parents of young people aged 14–18 who have learning difficulties. This leaflet helps you and your family prepare for healthy adulthood, with advice about growing up, staying healthy, and getting the right support as you become more independent.
